Have you ever thought to yourself: Yee howdy, I wish I could know what everyone thinks of my favorite character, and I also wish we could all definitively rank them in popularity based on the whims of the public? Then do I have the thing for you!

Right out the gate, it's time to vote for favorite characters. The votes for favorite NPC (human) and favorite NPC (other) will be running alongside each other, with the vote for NPC (other) starting a little later to make them both finish at the same time and end in an epic dual victory.

I have chosen to split them up because there's a lot of NPC's and we can expedite the process somewhat by having separate tournaments running alongside each other.

Humanoid creatures such as Pandorians residing in the circus will be counted as humans because that's how they choose to present and I will respect that.

Certain conditions apply regarding characters added to SSO just to host races, NPC's that are named but do not take part in quests, and characters from earlier games. these characters will not partake because the list is so. long. already.

Every poll will be accompanied by a picture and a brief description to refresh your memory, so don't worry if you can't remember them just by name! If you have any concerns or can't see your favorite NPC anywhere, send a message or an ask.

The first NPC (human) tournamnet will take place over 3 sessions of 40 posts per week, because it's 120 posts and I don't want to overwhelm you with that many posts. Once we've narrowed it down to 60 favorites it will be split into 2 sessions, and once we've only got 30 contestants left, I'll post them all in one go until a winner is declared. That's also when the NPC (other) polls will be posted.

Finishing up the book with this post.

Two things: one, the tired rhetoric of how there must be four Clans returns, without an actual explanation as to why. Having one Clan or one joint territory would be vastly more beneficial, and yet everyone seems to think four Clans are a necessity. Two, Firestar has the audacity to tell his daughter, the one he named after his old crush, that she reminds him so much of Spottedleaf and that he wishes she could have met her. And she knows all about their former almost-relationship. That is fucked.

That first point being said, I would honestly be really interested to see a story where ShadowClan did end up going to live in the Twolegplace and how they’d handle the rogues there. It’d totally kill the pacing and rest of the story, but I’m curious how that would go.

Firestar shares entirely too much faith in Hawkfrost, who so far we’ve seen act exactly like his dad. The fact that no one who’s seen it told him about this behavior yet baffles me.

Seriously, every time Hawkfrost shows up, he goes into a villainous monologue. Why does anyone trust him? Why hasn’t anyone questioned him yet, or reported the weird shit he says to a leader? What is this?

During the “battle” to save ShadowClan, trees and the description of a forest are repeatedly mentioned – trees falling, them running through a forest, etc. However, the map and usual descriptions of ShadowClan territory indicate that they’re in an open marsh. I don’t know why they wouldn’t just have the bushes of the marsh be pulled up instead, but whatever.

Cody has left the chat, and Leafpool again makes me understand why people are convinced she’s bi or gay. She’s a little too heartbroken for saying goodbye to a kittypet she only met a few days ago. If she gets crushes this easily, no wonder she shacks up with Crowfeather.

When the elders are being left behind, Leafpool and Frostfur use the phrase “good hunting” to say goodbye. This phrase, as far as I remember, has never been said before in the books, but it is a common greeting and farewell in both The Jungle Book and its sequel. I only mention this because I took a lot of inspiration from those two books (mostly in writing style; some of the actual content is…controversial) when writing the Redux, so it tickled me to see that here. That’s all. This point is not important. Carry on.

Dawnflower is a golden cat, described as having a pale grey pelt in one scene. Lucky for her that Dawn- covers both colors!

An apprentice named Smokepaw is presumably killed when rocks give way and he falls off a crumbling ledge. I understand that the Clans can’t reach him and he’s very likely dead, but dude, Blackstar is brutal. He just bluntly says that he wouldn’t have survived and they need to keep moving. At least Leafpaw prays that he died quickly.

Leafpaw can tell by the tinge of the clouds that snow is about to fall. My question here: has she ever even experienced snow before? I have no idea how old she is at this point, it’s very unclear, so I don’t know if she’s a year old or ten months or what. I guess they could easily say she has experienced it, but I’m still curious.

The Tribe cats have returned without their speech pattern they had in the last book, now talking entirely like normal Clan cats. Pick up the phone, because I called it!

I know that Stoneteller is still talking weird, but he’s talking like a caveman, not a Tribe cat. He’s using terse phrases and missing syntax. He did not speak like that at all in the last book.

Okay. Alright.

So Stormfur announces that he’s chosen to leave the Clans and stay with the Tribe, and among the cats agreeing that he can do what he wants, Firestar says, and I quote, “I remember how hard it was for Greystripe to choose Silverstream over his Clan.”

Firestar. You saw yourself that Greystripe had no struggle at all in choosing to hang out with his girlfriend, get her pregnant, stay in the nursery with his kits, then leave with them to RiverClan, over doing a single god damn thing to help his native Clan. There was not an inch of doubt. He was certain and eager to break the code and abandon everyone who (for some reason) cared for him. He fucking fought you when you told him to do the right thing and stay loyal! When the fuck was that even slightly a problem for Greystripe?!

Gotta get at least one moment of Greystripe pissing me off in this arc, I guess, even if it’s indirectly.

And of course the book ends there! They made it to the lake, hurrah. Can’t wait to see if there’s any silly bullshit I forgot since I read the rest of this series.
